OUR COMPANY

We Are Minera Cordillera S.C.M.

Since October 2007 we have been extracting salt (sodium chlorine) from our mine site located in the northern region of Chile. Our mineral deposit is located in the Gran Salar de Tarapacá, which is 100 kilometers south of the city of Iquique. This is a millenary fossil type Salar with no presence of surface water, live organisms or pollutants thus assuring the extraction of high purity raw material. Our extraction site, Tenardita mine, is located over the north-south axis of the Salar, place where the purity of the salt’s composition fluctuates between 99.3% and 99.8%.

COMPAÑÍA MINERA CORDILLERA

LEO D. MAHONEY

ENTREPRENEUR, BUSINESS MAN AND PHILANTHROPIST.
He was born in the bosom of a family of Irish immigrants. His father came from Ireland to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, coming from Rock Chapel, a small village North of Cork County in Ireland. He began working at the age of 13 in his father’s coal and ice business, a company that quickly evolved into a heating oil company. He shared his wealth generously committing his support to various local and foreign charitable institutions and non-profit organizations, mainly in Ireland and Chile. He acquires in Chile his first and principal mining and port property rights initiating operations of Compañía Minera Cordillera and Terminal Marítimo Patache. In Chile he also participates in the creation of a nonprofit educational foundation and, with a personal donation, initiates the implementation of a primary and secondary educational establishment in Alto Hospicio. A very optimistic person, with inner strength, of kind and friendly nature, being persistent and a man of faith. The courage and the strength that led him to be such a successful business man is probably a reflection of the spirit of Rock Chapel, the small village in Ireland named after the time when the Catholic religion was banned and mass was celebrated on a rock in extremely remote areas. He married to Joan Nagle with whom he had three children. Today, his youngest daughter, Shelagh, is in charge of the business, expanding and consolidating the de-icing salt production and distribution companies in the United States. He died on June 9th, 2010, at the age of 82.
